In this article, you will find tips on what you can do when it comes to remodeling the baby’s nursery.
Remodeling the Baby’s Nursery in Grand Rapids Michigan
Change the Color of the Baby’s Nursery
One of the home remodeling tips I’d like to offer is changing the color of the baby’s nursery. As your baby gets older, you may want to consider changing the colors and design of the baby’s nursery. If your baby is now two years old or so, you may want to consider painting the room and adding designs that are age appropriate. For example, if your child loves to watch a favorite TV show or movie, consider decorating the walls of the nursery with characters from the show or movie.
Changing the Crib into a Bed
If you bought a crib that can be transformed into a bed as the child gets older, you may want to consider making the transformation. If you didn’t buy this type of crib, you may want to consider buying a toddler bed to make the transition from the crib to the bed. If you are buying a bed, make sure you buy a bed that is low to the floor and has a railing system on it. If the bed is up against the wall, you will only need one rail. If it’s not against the wall, you will need a rail on each side of the bed. Buying a bed that is low to the floor will hopefully help your child be more independent and get in and out of the bed. It also cuts down on injury if your child falls out of the bed.
Building a Toy Box that’s Safe for the Baby
Another tip for remodeling the baby’s nursery is building the baby a new toy box. By now, I’m sure the baby has a nice collection of toys built up. So, it’s probably time to either buy a new toy box or build a new toy box. If you can’t find a toy box you like, you can find many plans online that will allow you to build your own toy box. Whether you build the toy box, or buy the toy box from a store, you need to make sure the toy box is safe for your child. You need to make sure if the top opens, it won’t slam back down on your child’s arms or fingers. A lot of toy boxes now have a type of hinge that won’t let the top of the toy box fall down. This type of hinge is great because it keeps your child from getting their fingers smashed. You also need to make sure there aren’t any sharp edges on the toy box that the child can fall and bust their head on.
Child Proofing the Baby’s Nursery
Remodeling the baby’s nursery also includes child proofing the nursery. If you haven’t gone through the room yet and child proofed it, you really need to do that right away. You need to make sure there are covers on the outlets, no wires or cords are hanging, no sharp corners are exposed, and nothing is hanging off of things that can be pulled down on the child, just to name a few things. There are many other things you may need to do to child proof the baby’s nursery. You will simply need to look around the room and consider all things that are in the room. I always say, “Think like an over-protective parent.”
Other remodeling in the baby’s room will depend on what all is in the room and what you want to add or remove from the room. Keep in mind the age of the baby when you are making plans to remodel the room. The child’s age will determine what all you can and can’t do when you are remodeling.
